Devastated mother of murdered 26-year-old pays tribute to son

The devastated mother of a 26-year-old man killed in broad daylight has paid tribute to her hard-working son.

Anthony Thompson, a delivery man and football captain, was attacked in Holmbury Court, Tooting, on February 5 and died two days later.

He was set to fly to Barcelona the day after he was attacked, having worked up the courage to overcome his fear of flying and go abroad for the first time.

The music fan was putting in extra hours at work to pay for his ticket and told his family he was excited about the holiday.

Mum Sheila Thompson, of Derinton Road, Tooting, has said the memories of her son are the only thing that keeps her going "We have been going down to the memorial every day, light the candles, look at the flowers and see his friends. I don't know what I would have done without them - they are devastated.

"He loved his job. He left at seven in the morning and came home seven at night, had a bath and went to the gym.

"He was not a trouble maker, he was a peacemaker and always considered other people.

"I would like to say thanks to friends and family who have supported me. I don't know what I would do without them."

She said she has not been able to organise a funeral yet, which has been very difficult for the family.

Mr Thompson, a former Southfields Community College pupil, was known to friends as Chillerman and was an MC in his spare time.

The Manchester United supporter was captain of football team Wandsworth All Stars, and also enjoyed caring for his staffordshire terrier Tugs.

His mum has said she hopes justice will be served on his attacker.

She said: "There are so many evil people out there, someone did that to a good boy."

*Thomas Evans, 31, of Bordesley Road, Morden, has been charged with Mr Thompson's murder and is due to reappear at the Old Bailey on May 17
