Police arrest three after Wandsworth metal checks
9:00am Tuesday 7th February 2012

Police arrested three people on suspicion of immigration offences during a crackdown on scrap metal theft.
Wandsworth police joined forces with The UK Border Agency, Wandsworth Trading Standards and waste management enforcement officers to target people involved with handling scrap mental.
Scrap metal dealerships in the borough were also visited to check they were complying with the law.
The three suspects were arrested on January 26 in Balham Hill and fines were issued for related driving offences.
Waste management officers also handed out five Duty of Care notices, meaning the driver has to prove how they disposed of their waste - failure to comply could result in a £300 fine.
Inspector Petra Laza said: "Op Ferrous is the Met's response to combating metal theft across the capital.
"This operation was an excellent example of proactive working with local partner agencies to identify and target metal thieves on Wandsworth Borough."
